Travis Konecny Signs Eight-Year Extension with Philadelphia Flyers

Philadelphia Flyers forward Travis Konecny has committed his future to the team, signing an eight-year, $70 million contract extension. This new agreement, set to begin in the 2025-26 season, secures Konecny as the highest-paid player on the Flyers' roster.

At 27 years old, Konecny is coming off a stellar season where he achieved career highs in goals, points, and short-handed goals. He netted 33 goals, accumulated 68 points, and scored six goals while the Flyers were shorthanded over the span of 76 games. Additionally, he registered 35 assists, just two shy of his personal best. Over the course of his career, Konecny has proven to be a reliable offensive force, amassing a total of 400 points, with 174 goals and 226 assists, across 564 games.

Konecny, who was selected by the Flyers with the 24th overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, has steadily developed into a cornerstone for the team. His significant contract extension underscores his value and the pivotal role he is expected to play in the Flyers’ future. The franchise is keen on building a competitive team around its key players, with Konecny being a crucial piece of that puzzle.

Reflecting on Konecny’s contributions and the importance of his contract extension, Flyers' General Manager Daniel Briere expressed his enthusiasm and admiration. "Travis Konecny is an integral part of the fabric of our team and we are thrilled to have him under contract for the long-term. Travis has grown into a significant leader on our team and he truly embodies what it means to be a Flyer. His work ethic, combined with his tenacity and talent, makes him a central figure for what we are building towards, and his determination for our future success speaks volumes about his commitment to our team and city," Briere stated.

Konecny’s own excitement was palpable as he discussed his new contract and his future with the Flyers. "I couldn't be happier to sign again with the Flyers. There's such a bright and exciting future with this team and I can't wait to be a part of it for the next nine years and see what we will accomplish," Konecny said. He also took the opportunity to acknowledge the support he has received throughout his career. "I can't thank all my teammates and staff members enough because this opportunity wouldn't be possible without each and every one of them along the way. I can't wait to get back to Philly in front of the best fans in the world and I look forward to another great season,” he added.

The Flyers have not always had the easiest path in recent years, but the resurgence of key players like Konecny provides a reason for optimism. Konecny’s dynamic presence on the ice, combined with his leadership qualities, sets a positive tone for what the organization hopes to achieve in the coming seasons.

As Konecny gears up for another season, the anticipation and expectations surrounding his performance will undoubtedly be high. With his contract extension, the Flyers and their fans can look forward to many more exhilarating moments from one of their brightest stars. The long-term commitment from both player and team speaks volumes about the mutual respect and shared vision for success in Philadelphia.
