The Hockey Hall of Fame has unveiled its class of 2024, a group enriched with talent, legacy, and substantial contributions to the sport. On November 11, 2024, seven distinguished individuals—five players and two builders—will be honored with induction into the Hall.
Player Inductees
Headlining the player inductees is Jeremy Roenick, an outspoken and exceptional talent who left an indelible mark on the NHL over his 20-year career. Roenick's journey spanned five franchises, during which he amassed 513 goals and 703 assists over 1,363 games. His prolific scoring ranks him fourth in goals and fifth in points among American-born players in NHL history.
Pavel Datsyuk, a magician with the puck and one of the most respected two-way forwards, will also be recognized. Datsyuk’s 14-season tenure with the Detroit Red Wings was decorated with accolades, including being a Selke Trophy finalist ten times and winning the award three consecutive years from 2008 to 2010. His resume also features two Stanley Cup championships, bolstered by 314 goals and 604 assists in 953 career games.
Shea Weber, known for his booming shot and staunch defensive play, rounds out the male player inductees. Weber's career, split between the Nashville Predators and the Montreal Canadiens, saw him score 224 goals and register 365 assists over 16 seasons. Notably, he was a pivotal figure in the Canadiens' run to the Stanley Cup Final in 2020, and was a three-time Norris Trophy finalist.
Representing the women’s game, Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl will be inducted. Darwitz, a trailblazer for American women's hockey, led the University of Minnesota to a national championship in 2005, netting the game-winning goal against Harvard. Her international play includes two Olympic silver medals and a bronze, alongside three golds and five silvers at the World Championships.
Krissy Wendell-Pohl enjoyed a stellar career representing the United States, playing in 147 international games and scoring 106 goals. Wendell-Pohl’s crowning achievement came during the 2005 World Championships when she guided Team USA to a gold medal and earned tournament MVP honors. Her Olympic accolades comprise one silver and one bronze medal.
Builder Inductees
On the builders' side, David Poile and Colin Campbell are set to be honored for their significant contributions to the NHL. Poile, known for his unparalleled record as a general manager, accumulated a league-best 1,533 regular season victories. His tenure with the Nashville Predators is especially noteworthy, culminating in the franchise's first Stanley Cup Final appearance in 2017.
Colin Campbell’s storied career in hockey includes 11 seasons as an NHL player. As an assistant coach with the New York Rangers, he won the Stanley Cup in 1994 and later served as the team's head coach for four seasons. For the past 25 years, Campbell has been pivotal as an Executive Vice President for the NHL, shaping the league’s operations and policies.
A Momentous Ceremony Awaits
The induction ceremony promises to be a momentous occasion, celebrating careers that have significantly shaped the game of hockey. Jeremy Roenick’s fiery spirit, Pavel Datsyuk’s elegance on ice, Shea Weber’s defensive mastery, and the pioneering contributions of Natalie Darwitz and Krissy Wendell-Pohl are stories that underline the diversity and breadth of talent in this year’s class.
Meanwhile, David Poile and Colin Campbell’s strategic acumen and vision for the game underscore the essential roles behind the bench and in executive offices, highlighting the multifaceted nature of achievement within the sport.
